Service Description
Have you ever wanted to make your own bespoke hand-tailored garments for historical recreations, costumes, or a truly elegant and personalized wardrobe? Bespoke tailoring is the art of making garments with built-in structure, shape, and customized fit. Hand-tailored garments are created using approaches, techniques and materials beyond those found in traditional sewing, and stand apart from the ready-to-wear tailored garments produced in factories. In Lynda Maynard's Tailoring program, you will make your own men's or women's hand-tailored jacket from start to finish, while you learn hand tailoring skills. You will choose your own fabrics and pattern. You will construct and read a muslin for custom fit, then update the pattern with corrections. You will build structure into a garment using hand-sewing techniques, special materials and interfacings, and iron work to shape fabric with heat and steam. You will construct intricate details such as lapels, patch pockets, welt pockets, linings, vents and collars. Three six-week classes cover the entire process. The first class covers fitting, materials, and hand stitching techniques. The second class focuses on construction, including techniques for shaping and structure. The third class brings the jacket together along with finishing details.
